GEO agency for a local business: an honest list, with us on it

Short answer

NovaTechRay is one option on this list, so weigh that. Six agencies sell GEO or AEO to local firms, with what each page says and free routes beside them. Nobody can guarantee a recommendation, so check the method, not the promise.

A GEO agency for a local business, and the best GEO agencies to compare: six that sell to small or local firms, what their own pages say, the free routes, and who should not hire us.

I run this page, and NovaTechRay is one of the options on it.

So read the list knowing the author has a stake. We did not hire any of these companies, we did not mystery-shop them, and nothing here is a test of how well they work. All I did was open each agency's own page on 6 November 2026 and write down what it says about itself.

That is a smaller claim than "best GEO agencies", and it is the only one I can back.

1: How the list was made, and where it is weak

I searched for agencies that sell generative engine optimization or answer engine optimization to small or local businesses. Then I opened the pages, because a search summary is a lead and not a fact.

Here is the weak part. Most results were agency sales pages and directories where placements may be paid, so the pool is whoever ranks for those words. A good agency that does not rank for them is missing.

And I did not test anything. No calls, no sign-ups, no audits, no reference checks. If an agency prints a result, I say it prints it, and I did not verify it.

That leaves a list of what is claimed. Useful, but not a verdict.

2: What nobody can promise

Start here, because it decides whether a pitch is honest.

Nobody can guarantee that ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Google will name your business. OpenAI's bots page, read 6 November 2026, describes OAI-SearchBot as the crawler for ChatGPT's search features and lets a site allow it independently of GPTBot. It gives no form that buys a place in an answer.

So GEO is the work that makes you readable and worth citing. It does not buy a slot.

We dug into this in nine things in a GEO pitch that should end the meeting, and a guarantee of placement is item one. If an agency below gave one, I would have left it off. None did on the pages I read.

3: Six agencies that sell this to local firms

No numbers on this list and no winner. The order is not a ranking.

Everything below is what the agency's own page said on 6 November 2026.

Locafy sells answer engine optimization to local and multi-location businesses. Its page lists question research, answer-first content, entity and schema work, listing consistency and monthly reporting on AI visibility. It prints $999 to $2,999 a month for its website bundle on a 12-month term, and says standalone work is priced on a call. It states that it does not promise rankings or citations.

HawkSEM prints $1,550 a month for local businesses when paired with an SEO package, $4,000 for full-service GEO and $10,000 and up for larger brands. Its page says month-to-month, no setup fees, and that it cannot absolutely guarantee appearing in AI answers. Its results section leans on large-brand case studies, so ask for results from GEO work specifically.

Studio Blue Creative lists five services: AI Overview optimization, local business schema, review work, local landing pages and multi-engine visibility. It prints no prices, offers a free consultation and a free scorecard, and gives timelines as ranges, not promises.

Wired Mustang is a general digital marketing agency whose AEO page uses local examples such as a dentist and a contractor. It describes finding customers' questions, writing clear answers and adding structured data. It prints no prices, no guarantees and no measured results.

Seologist sells an AI visibility audit, strategy, answer-ready content and tracking. Its sectors include home services and healthcare, and its FAQ says smaller companies can benefit. It prints no prices, no guarantees, and it publishes client results on the page that I did not verify.

BlakSheep Creative is a web design and marketing agency whose AEO page targets service businesses. It promises a fixed quote before work starts and prints no figure. Its example result is labelled fictional on the page, which is fair, and also means there is no real number to check.

Then there is us. NovaTechRay sells GEO only to independent hospitality: restaurants, boutique hotels, specialty cafes and tour operators. Its services page describes a baseline, a technical fix and slow off-site mention work.

4: What NovaTechRay prints about price

I checked www.novatechray.com for a number before writing this sentence.

It prints none. The FAQ says cost depends on how much mechanical work your site needs, and that the first call is thirty minutes and free. I will not invent a figure here.

That is a mild annoyance for a buyer comparing the list, and I know it. The agencies above that print prices make your comparison easier on that one point.

5: The free routes, which are often the honest answer

Free is not a consolation prize. For a single-location business, some of the first layer is work you can do without anyone.

Open your homepage with JavaScript off. If the hours and menu vanish, assistants that do not run scripts see an empty page. Check robots.txt for the answering crawlers. Make your listings agree on name, hours and address.

Then add Bing Webmaster Tools. Bing's post of 10 February 2026, read 6 November 2026, introduces an AI Performance report in public preview that shows citations of your pages in Copilot and Bing's AI summaries. It is a sample, and it says nothing about ranking. It is still the first-party baseline most agencies bill you to rebuild.

I wrote up what the paid version of this should cost in what GEO should cost a single-location cafe. The short form is that finished technical work belongs in a project, not a retainer.

6: Who should not hire NovaTechRay

We are the wrong agency in four cases, and our own services and contact pages say so.

If you are not an independent hospitality business, we are not built for you. Our work rests on hospitality queries, and that knowledge does not transfer to a dentist.

If your site cannot change, the mechanical fix fails and the rest is wasted money. If you want a guaranteed position, we cannot sell it. And if you want a dashboard number that always goes up, ours reports uncertainty and will say when a month was flat.

Our site says we have told people the retainer was not worth taking.

7: Checks to run on any agency, including us

Ask what changes in week one, and how you would know it happened. A real answer names the fix: server-rendered pages, unblocked crawlers, dead URLs cleared.

Ask how they measure. A fixed prompt set, run many times, with the spread reported. One blended score tells you less than it seems to.

Ask which of their tactics has a dated study behind it, and which has none. The full list of tells is in the nine red flags.

Then ask what happens if nothing moves. Month-to-month terms and a plain answer beat a 12-month term and a hopeful one.

I did not know whether I would feel comfortable listing our own price gap beside agencies that print theirs. I do, mostly.

The short version

  • Treat every agency page as a claim, not a result, including ours.
  • Never pay anyone who guarantees a recommendation.
  • Do the free layer first: JavaScript-off check, crawler access, matching listings, Bing Webmaster Tools.
  • Compare agencies on method, reporting and exit terms before price.
  • Ask for results from GEO work, not from the agency's wider portfolio.
  • Walk away from a retainer whose deliverable is a dashboard.

This is the work we do at novatechray.com, if you run a cafe, restaurant, hotel or tour.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best GEO agency for a local business?

We cannot name one, and this page does not try. We have not hired any of the agencies on it, and no independent test of GEO agencies exists. NovaTechRay is on the list and runs the page. What we can do is show what each agency's own public page says, read on 6 November 2026, and give you the checks to run on any of them.

Can a GEO agency guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No. There is no submission form for ordinary websites, the answers vary between runs, and the sources an assistant leans on can change. Two of the agencies here say on their own pages that they do not guarantee citations, and the others print no guarantee. Treat a guarantee from anyone as a reason to leave.

Can I do GEO myself for free?

Much of the first layer, yes. Check that your site shows its facts without JavaScript, that the answering crawlers are allowed in robots.txt, and that your listings agree with each other. Bing Webmaster Tools has a free AI Performance report in public preview that shows where Copilot cites your pages.

Who should not hire NovaTechRay?

Anyone outside independent hospitality, anyone whose site cannot change, anyone who wants a guaranteed position or a dashboard number that always rises. Our own services and contact pages say the same, and the first call is the place to hear it.
