AI search for a single-location business, and when not to buy it

Restaurants, cafes, hotels and tour operators: the attributes that decide AI recommendations, the listings behind them, and what GEO should cost.

Short answer

Local AI recommendations are decided by attributes and by third-party listings rather than by prose on your homepage. Publish the specifics a question filters on, in plain HTML: cuisine or roaster, price band, neighbourhood, hours, booking policy, group size, duration, access and capacity. Then fix the listings the assistants ground on, which for ChatGPT's local answers mostly means Yelp following OpenAI's July 2026 licensing deal. For one location the honest shape of the work is a one-off technical and listings project rather than a retainer, unless the retainer is buying you ongoing coverage on sites you do not own.

NovaTechRay sells GEO, and the most common honest answer to a single-location owner is that they should buy a project and then leave. The work that moves a cafe or a clinic is boring and finite: unblock the answering crawlers, get the menu out of JavaScript, state the attributes people filter on, and make Yelp, Google and Bing agree with each other. Being named in an answer and being bookable from it are now two different problems, since ChatGPT began completing restaurant bookings in August 2026 through Yelp Guest Manager, OpenTable and Resy, which is a distribution decision with a monthly price rather than an optimisation. What we will not pretend is that any of this is a growth channel on its own. It is the condition of being considered, and a business nobody independent has written about will still lose to one that has been covered.
